note we have not identified this house BUT the following tale is of interest, taken from VCH Hants - in 1538 Henry VIII made a grant in tail male to Richard Hill, serjeant of the king's cellar and Elizabeth his wife of 'the dissolved priory of Wintney, Hants; the church, steeple and churchyard of the same; the manor of Hartley Wintney, Hants; and all the lands of Hartley Wintney and in Winchester, hants belonging to the said manor and rectory' Widowed Elizabeth married Sir John Mason, becoming Lady Mason,. and the manor was settled on them in 1560. Elizabeth, again widowed,exchanged the manor with Anthony Weekes alias Mason, getting an interest in Elvetham manor in return. In 1590 the manor went to Anthony's son John Mason, who sold it to Lord Zouche, the deal retified by 1613 ...
